CANON FACTS START
These are in no particular order.

1. Claire was born on an unspecified date in 1979, as per the Recollections Glossary, making her 19 during the Raccoon City Incident in 1998.

2. At the time of the incident in 1998, she was a college student and a passionate biker. It’s never explicitly confirmed if she dropped out of college or graduated, but as she went on the search for Chris and was later captured in Rockfort Island (CVX), there must have been little time to return.

3. It's confirmed and canonical that she is merely a civilian with no formal training in combat or marksmanship. Chris (her brother, if you didn't know for some reason) trained her and taught her skills.

4. While Jill Valentine is often considered the master of unlocking, Claire is also quite competent as a lockpicker herself, as per noted in her Recollections glossary and seen in the original RE2.

5. This makes Claire one of the very few characters of the franchise to be a full civilian that never gets into military forces later on (as per her latest appearances, REV2 and DI).

6. It is unknown if her jackets (in CVX and RE2) are handmade, but they bear the same motif as Chris’ A-2 flight jacket, from his time as an Air Pilot.

7. She is about 169cm (or 5’5”) and her blood type is O, as noted in Recollections.

8. In an interview with Hideki Kamiya (Famitsu, February 1998 issue), Kamiya mentions that Claire’s hobby is tinkering with motorcycles and she even owns two of them (by the time of RE2).

9. In that same interview, Kamiya notes she’s had a few boyfriends before, but didn’t have any at the moment of Raccoon City’s incident.

10. Claire’s eyes are blue and her hair is auburn, sometimes teetering on the edge of being straight up red. Those two are the most consistent features of Claire and they don’t change through the games and iterations. Unlike Chris, whose eyes seem to change from blue to brown in certain games.

11. Claire is an orphan. When Claire and Chris were younger both of their parents died. It is not specified how and when. It seems she grew up with her grandparents who also eventually passed and had only Chris as family and guardian.

12. Despite what is shown on Revelations 2, Claire has quite a maternal and protective side when it comes to kids. It is seen in RE2 with Sherry Birkin, then again in Degenerations with Rani. In RE:ID, in the little short time we have with her we see her still handle talking to kids.

13. Slapped the Senator (Ron Davis) and with a soldier standing right next to him and got away with it. Frankly, it was deserved and she was so right for doing that (Degenerations). Interestingly enough, she was nice and civil to the Senator before he put Rani's life in danger to escape with his own, which goes to show that even in time of crisis she will not leave anyone behind. But she WILL slap you if you've been a bastard.

14. This doesn’t bear repeating, but it is a fact and should be here for the sole purpose of reiteration. She’s survived the Raccoon City outbreak and escaped the city before it was bombed. (RE2, DSC)

15. Literally three months later she infiltrated the Umbrella headquarters in Paris in search for her brother Chris, being almost certain that he was there. However, she was captured and made a prisoner. (CVX)

16. Yup, this girl was a prisoner. Umbrella’s prisoner, which is frankly a lot worse. Identification number WKD4496. As per the Prisoner’s Diary file (CVX) Rockfort Island’s file (DSC) and the Anatomist’s note (CVX), we learn that Rockfort Island has an airport, a paramilitary training camp and a prison for saboteurs and traitors of Umbrella to either be tortured, experimented on or executed outright. She was transferred and held in Rockfort Island and was set to stay there for an unspecified amount of time, possibly to die, should the outbreak had not happened the moment it did.

17. Another instance where she became a “prisoner” was in Sein Island (REV 2). I put “Prisoner” in quotations because there’s hardly any imprisonment, it’s more like she is kidnapped and tossed to an Island as an experiment, to fend for herself. Which isn’t any better.

18. I mentioned before that Claire Redfield is the only civilian of the main cast (at the moment, next to Moira), but let me expand upon that a little more. She is a member of Terrasave, an non-profit organization started shortly after the Raccoon City Incident in response to the government covering-up the incident. As Leon plainly noted, Claire chose the role of a rescuer rather than a fighter like her brother. That is a very good way to put it, seeing as her work in Terrasave is more akin to supplying resources (medical supplies and manpower) to victims of bioterror, investigating possible bioweapons and the sorts. This does not mean she's any less active, however.

19. Despite having the role of a Rescuer above a Fighter, she’s a very capable fighter and has quite the endurance. She can go toe-to-toe in combat with many, especially in hand-to-hand which is what Chris trained her in especially. As per her lastest canon appearance (DI) she's highly capable, active and competent with a weapon.

20. She has a S.T.A.R.S lighter and knife because of this, which may confuse people on who she is.

21. TerraSave and the BSAA seem to have worked together in the past and, as of lastest canon appearance (DI) they're still working together. Piers Nivans even sent an e-mail to Claire Redfield after TerraSave’s visit (seen in Rev2).

22. Fun fact about that letter. Piers notes that the BSAA unit had only heard of Chris’ sister from his stories and how he talks about her, so they all expected Chris’ sister to appear more of his build. Which is, to me, kinda funny.

23. In CVX, she crashes into the Antarctic base of Umbrella. Most of that section of the game she spends it inside the base, but once she goes outside to fight the Nosferatu keep in mind that both Steve and Claire are wearing the most unsuitable clothing there. We can easily assume that this girl has gone through perils withstanding such a cold temperature and surviving. She's not invincible but girl can push through whatever needs to be done to survive.

24. The insignia ‘Made In Heaven’ and ‘Let Me Live’ found at the back of her vests are song titles for the band ‘Queen' and while we don't know if she canonically listens to the band, or if the band exist in-game, it's pretty neat.

25. In Resident Evil Outbreak there’s a hotel register with the names of people who visited previously. In one of the names there’s one Claire, but there’s no last name. However, it seems to be in reference to her, as little easter egg. But this does explain further what she was doing in Raccoon City. She wasn't just crashing in, she likely booked a room to stay in when she went to look for Chris.

26. In her original appearance in RE 2, her white motorcycle is a Ducati 500 GT. In the end screen she has her second motorcycle (can be seen here).

27. In that same picture above, as it was noted by someone in a forum, is that Claire has a ring in her ring finger in that illustration, but we never come to find out what it is or if it means something. Seems she just has it for the sake of having it. We can't see it in any other iteration, much less in CVX because she wears gloves.

28. Claire’s favorite food are Cheeseburgers (RE 2 Novel).

29. On that same note, the novelization (RE 2 Novel) note that Claire’s hobbies are noted as ‘tinkering with her motorcycle’ (confirmed by Hideki Kamiya), dancing and it is noted that she finds ‘political talk boring.’ By Degeneration, we see her attentively looking at the news, however. So, it seems that she’s grown out of that idea or has at least grown to understand politics and how it pertains to her activism, her work and desire to do good. A fun little tid bit many may miss.

30. Claire is vaccinated against the T-Virus as per Degenerations. Wilpharma's vaccine is distributed and seems to work perfectly. After Harvardville, she's vaccinated as well as the other survivors of the Airport incident, so we know she has immunity against it. It is never mentioned whether she has immunity against other viruses. UPDATE: As of DI, she's vaccinated against the T-Virus of the film (which I'm not sure is identified any differently).

31. Which leads to this. One thing that never gets expanded upon in canon is what happens post-REV 2. Both Claire and Moira are injected with the t-Phobos virus, but it isn't clear if the BSAA is able to vaccinate them or if they merely have become immune to it -- being the two only survivors with it. Either way, it's interesting if it's still within her, making this the first virus she's immune to by natural means.

32. Has fought a Tyrant in the back of a plane during take-off (CVX). I think that's pretty fucking awesome.

33. Has been slapped and kicked in the face by Albert Wesker. Ow! (CVX) That was also her first time meeting Wesker, having only heard of him from Chris' stories. After CVX, I believe she doesn't encounter him again face to face.

34. On that previous fact. This girl can continue walking through pain and injuries. Though canonically, the injuries Claire sustains in RE2 and CVX are the ones only seen in the cutscenes (which aren't that many), in Degeneration she has an injury that incapacitates her, but she kept on pushing and walking to find Leon and give him information needed, as well as pushing through the rest of the Wilpharma building infested with zombies to get to the control room. Mind you, she was also close to an explosion that knocked her unconscious. In REV 2 she goes through falls, throws and the sorts and recovers faster than Moira and keeps on walking. This girl is made of pure steel almost!

35. And yet, there's the occassion where she jeopardizes her chances of survival if it means taking care of/saving someone else. In CVX, for example, Rodrigo Juan Naval was the person who freed Claire from prison but he's severely injured. Not a zombie bite, but a wound that has incapacitated him from moving further. Despite the man having accepted his fate, Claire returns to him to give him hemostatic medicine to help his wound and even offers to put it on him. Perhaps a token of gratitude for his moment of humanity in such a wretched place. In Degenerations, when she hears the screams of an survivor (someone not infected), she picks up a weapon and leaves the relative safety of the VIP room to look for the survivor -- even if it meant that she would have to put herself in the line for that, with just an Umbrella at hand and just her wit. In fact, in that movie alone, she saves the injured Senator from being crushed by the crashing plane, she saves Rani and instead of leaving the Dome after being incapacitated, she goes to the control room to help. In DI, even when infected with the virus and nearly paralyzed, she pushes through to help a man who was partially responsible in the outbreak -- and while she doesn't save him, the gesture is enough to tell. Whether through badass action, or subtle details, she will always ensure the people's safety above her own.

36. With a tally of only two love interests in canon, Claire doesn't have a lot of luck... seeing as they both die. Steve Burnside (CVX) turns into a monster and has to be killed, Neil Fisher (REV 2) betrays TerraSave and Claire and eventually turns into a monster himself. It is worth noting that Neil and Claire were never really confirmed to have a thing for one another, but it was largely implied/insinuated.

37. Sherry Birkin considers Claire to not only be her mother, but to have shaped who she is. It is mentioned in Resident Evil 6's memo "Sherry and The Raccoon City Incident." It is also noted there that Sherry and Claire do keep contact as much as possible after the events of the game and throughout Sherry's growth. Simmons allows Claire to check up on Sherry because of their connection, despite Sherry being protected by powers higher than Claire's status.

38. On this very note as well, Claire knows something is up with Derek C. Simmons and has a suspicion that he might be up to something malicious. Claire tries to warn Sherry about it in a letter, but that message is intercepted by someone working for him. Despite this, the interceptor is compassionate towards Sherry and gets rid of the letter before Simmons ever reads it. Claire has also warned Sherry in the past about certain missions and situations she should stray away from. Truly, Claire is like a mother to Sherry. Wise and worried.

39. In the original canon (RE2), Claire never meets or talks to Ada Wong. However, in DSC they meet briefly. Besides this contained moment in DSC, Claire doesn't know a thing about Ada Wong. If she ever comes aware, it may be due to Leon telling her or Chris letting her know. Despite all this, Ada throws a rocket launcher to Claire to defeat the tyrant in RE2.

40. The canon run of RE2 is Claire A, Leon B. Therefore this movie is a very accurate depiction of what her experiences in Raccoon City were like. There are continuity little squicks but it's Capcom, what do we do.

41. She has a tendency to wink. She's seen winking at Sherry (RE2), Rani (Degenerations) and Leon (Degenerations).

42. In RE:ID (Mun personally doesn't like or consider that show canon, but here we go), we see TerraSave assisting Penamstan. Claire is personally in the area. It is very likely that Claire and many of the TerraSave members personally visits the areas affected. This would technically mean Claire has been involved in far more incidents and their aftermaths than we consider.

43. Claire and Leon's relationship! What's up? In the canon so far (RE2, Degenerations, RE:ID; where they actually meet and interact) they both appear to still hold a lot of respect and love for each other despite being in separate life paths. In the moments we have of them together, they both seem like close friends who can tease one another and trust that the other one will make it. They're not a canonical couple (as of 2023)! Mun may make it a ship but as a CANON ship, it hasn't happened. RE:ID tries to tease it but nothing comes out of it.

44. Canonically, Claire knows Jill Valentine and Rebecca Chambers, presumably from Chris' time as a S.T.A.R.S. Member. We have never seen them in a movie or a game together in the canon timeline up until just recently with the release of the Death Island's trailer. This will be their first time interacting/working together. With DI out, we finally have the first canonical, on-screen interaction of Jill, Claire and Rebecca together after such a long time. Let's gooo!

45. Red is the defining color for Claire from the start of her development as a character. Much like with Chris and Jill being Green and Blue respectively, Claire and Leon are Red and Blue. Most of the jackets and clothes we see have a varying degree of red.

Post-April, 2023 updates: Death Island is out and here are the gathered canon facts!

46. First of all, this woman can do flips. Claire is not often shown to be acrobatic, but she is 100% capable of pulling some tricks, good for her!

47. As seen in DI, Claire will butt heads with people due to politics but will still save and care for anyone hurt in front of her -- regardless of her grudges.

BONUS. Alyson Court, the voice actress, describes Claire Redfield as: a regular human with a good heart. Whereas all of the others characters have a skill set through "high-rate military training" or similar, Claire is very much a 'fish out of water' in terms of her being the most untrained of all, setting her apart from the cast in her original iterations. She had a sense of humor to her, an spirit and in general an "attitude" to her character which Alyson Court greatly helped in creating and maintaining across all her performances. Thank you, Alyson!

*Notes: Asterisks in sources denote particular canons that mun often ignores or does not entirely consider canon. The S.D Perry novels are technically not canon either, but they do bridge some gaps without causing kurfuffles in the timeline so I use some bits and pieces there.
